Fish Pie Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 fish per person
- Potatoes (enough for mashing)
- 50g butter (plus extra for mash)
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 500ml milk (plus extra for mash)
- Salt and pepper
- 2 handfuls grated cheese (cheddar or gouda)
Instructions
Prepare the potatoes: Peel potatoes and cut into small pieces. Place in a pan with salted water and bring to the boil.
Cook the fish: Wrap each fish in foil with a little salt and pepper. Bake at 180°C for 40 minutes.
Make the cheese sauce: Melt 50g butter in a pan. Add 2 tablespoons flour and mix well. Slowly add 500ml milk, stirring continuously. Season with salt and pepper. Bring to the boil while stirring. When thickened, add the grated cheese and stir until melted.
Assemble the pie: Drain any water from the fish foil. Break the cooked fish into small pieces and place in a baking dish. Pour the cheese sauce over the fish.
Prepare the mash topping: Drain the boiled potatoes and mash with a little butter and milk. Either pipe the mash onto the sauce using a piping bag, or spoon it around the top. Use a fork to create a pattern, ensuring the potato covers the entire pie.
Bake: Place in the oven at 180°C until the mash is golden brown.
